Still not normal: Swelling is a significant sign of real internal injury of the joint. It should be evaluated by an orthopedic surgeon. Pain can subside with significant injury. An MRI may be necessary to determine damaged structures.

Ortho eval: Possibilities include cartilage damage (chondral injury) and meniscal tear. These may req surgery. Other possibilities as well, but most of time will get better with conservative treatment. I rec seeing an ortho doc.
