How long willnumbness last after breast reduction surgery?

Months: Numbness post surgery is very common. Depending on the amount of tissue removed during your breast reduction, numbness may last up to 6 months. Some areas of numbness will never recover normal sensation. Approximately 15% of women post reduction mammoplasty have decreased nipple sensitivity that will remain permanent. Discuss with your breast surgeon.

Hopefully weeks: It varies quite a bit, but some patches of numbness after a large breast reduction operation may remain permanently. Most such areas gradually gain sensation over weeks to months. This is the reason surgeons use varying techniques to minimize this problem.

Weeks to Forever: Loss of sensation is one of the potential risks associated with breast reduction surgery. This loss of sensation may last for several weeks or may be permanent.

Numb after BR: Discomfort, swelling and discoloration of the breasts are expected for several weeks. Usually, our patients return to most normal activity within two weeks.
