Talk to him: About how your visits are great. Let him express his fears and address those with positive re-enforcement. Take him to a children dentist and just have his teeth counted so he gets used to the office and staff. Make it fun. He has nothing to fear but fear itself is the old saying and it is true.

Hollywood!!: Kids (and adults) are not born afraid of the dentist. It is a learned behavior typically either from class mates, friends or most likely movies. In very rare cases it is from an actual bad experience at the dentist. While positive reinforcement is very important, your awareness of these other factors is vital.

Children's dentists: Are well-versed in behavioral modification techniques to de-sensitize children with anxiety/specific phobia.Some specialize in the care of children with autism & other neurodevelopmental disorders. They perform specific stimulus-response avoidance techniques without the need for a psychotherapist, in my experience.Call the office & explain the situation. It may take several visits.
