Not necessarily: It depend what fracture you have and were the fracture located, some require hand cast some are not.

Little finger: For example a non displaced fracture of the base or proximal phalanx could be managed by budy taping but a dislpaced angulated and now reduced fracture the metacarpal may be treated in a cast.
