The ear position: Is normalized. Usually this is done for protruding ears, which may take several forms. An incision is made on the posterior surface of the ear, the cartilage reshaped and the ear repositioned closer to the head.

Bending & Tacking: Prominent ears protrude due to 2 main issues. The top of the ear lacks an "antihelical fold" which is the curved cartilage paralleling the upper rim of the ear. The bottom of the ear can protrude, because the "bowl" of the ear" just before the ear canal, is overly large. Otoplasty: a crease incision behind the ear, "bending" the cartilage at the top, +/-"tacking" the bowl down & back.

Surgery: Nearly all of the scars are placed behind the ear, so that they are well hidden. The ear cartilage is reshaped by scoring and placing permanent sutures in the cartilage, and possibly by removing some cartilage. http://www.dassmd.com/ear-pinning-beverly-hills.html.

Reshape ear: Most commonly done for protruding ear. The "bowl" is lessened, and the pinna is bent back and sutured. Make sure your otoplasty is done by a board certified facial plastic surgeon.
