Otoplasty: Plastic surgeons generally wait until the ears and cartilage have matured in size. For most children (boys and girls), around age 6 is the typical age when otoplasty or ear reshaping surgery is considered.

6 years old: Adult ear size is one reason. It requires some cooperation from the child to understand what is being done, and why they should be "good" and not pull off the bandage and pull on their ears because it does feel sore. For this reason some children may not be as mature at 6 and should wait longer. Avoid teasing during grade school and on. Earlier than 6, kids aren't that bothered by their ears.

5 years old: Otoplasty (ear reshaping) can be performed after age 5 or so at which time the ear is mostly finished growing.
