A member asked:

I used 1 drop of an old bottle of gentamicin drops for red eyes not relieved by antihistamine drops . must i continue taking now, 4x/day for 5-7 days?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

At least 5 days: Gentamicin is an effective antibiotic with no meaningful side effects when used topically on the eye. If started, you should use it for 5days or more to make sure you are not culturing gentamicin resistant bugs. As long as your vision is unaffected, and the eye is not swellen or painful, you can try this course. Otherwise see your ophthalmologist.
