Maybe, maybe not: Gastric reflux can cause sore throats and coughs. But people with reflux can still catch the usual colds and strep throat infections. That means a sore throat should be evaluated by the doctor, who may do a rapid strep throat swab. The 5 minute test can tell if strep bacteria are there, and if so, the doctor can prescribe antibiotic treatment.

Reflux disease: Acid reflux from gastric secretions can produce a sore throat, and can also be aspirated and produce a chemical pneumonia. That could lead to secondary infection. It is unlikely this will cause sinusitis resulting in post-nasal drip, but the latter can also produce a sore throat. Sounds like the doctor you are seeing is quite good and wish you luck.
