A bit more than that: If you do indeed have reflux, as part of your treatment you will need to minimize or avoid intake of foods the tend to lower the pressure required to keep lower esophageal sphincter closed during the digestion of food. You will also need to be watchfull of the timing of your meals and may need to be on medication. Your internist or GI doc will advice you on what's best for you.

Acid is not the issu: Reflux is a disease that is more than just acid. We reflux bile, enzymes, fluid and other gastric components, and they all reflux. The anti-acid medication just make it tolerable by decreasing the acid component, but it does not cure reflux. How aggressive to approach this depends on your symptoms.
