Yes: If a tooth abscesses the infection may drain into the mouth thru a fistula.Kind of like a pimple. As long as it keeps draining the presure from the infection does not build up and there may be no pain. If you are having occassonal pain you may have had a minor trauma to the tooth( like biting on something hard or possible irritation from decay) and there can be temporary pain. Have it checked.

Possibly: It is possible for a tooth to be infected and now cause pain, if the infection is draining then pressure will not build up. It is best to see a dentist to have it checked before you end up with a major life threatening abscess.
