No easy answer: There is no easy answer, because if there is a malignancy there, it can only get worse, and the longer you wait, the greater chance that it will progress and become more difficult to treat successfully. Usually the delays are measured in days not months.

Why delay?: A sonogram can show that endometrial hyperplasia is not likely but it can not say it is not there. An endometrial stripe less than 5 mm is reassuring. Most patients tolerate the biopsy very well. It is quick and easy.

Depends: Endometrial hyperplasia is rreally a pathologic diagnosis and is given by looking at a biopsy specimen. There are different type including hyperplasia with atypia. Ultrasound can only say it looks thick or thin. If you have been postmenopausal for 7 yrs it is important to have either endometrial biopsy or D&C to rule out pre-cancer or cancer especially when on hrt.
