Are dental implants considered surgery? what kind of pain meds are used, and how long does it take to do one back molar implant?

A little over one hr: If no bone augmentation is needed and is a straight forward implant placement it should take an hour +\- 15 min. Local anesthetic used for numbing. And it is a surgery since a hole is made into your bone where the implant is placed with instruments and sometimes incisions and sutures are needed. Most patients say they don't feel anything during this surgery ANS mild soreness ounces anesthetic off.

Yes: Implants are a form of dental surgery, although it is a minor out patient type surgery. Many patients do not require any pain meds at all, but would be left to the discretion of the surgeon. Placing one implant should take about an hour.

Yes it is surgery: The implants are placed into the bone, and some sort on incision is done to the gum tissue to access the bone. The type of pain medication will depend on how complicated the surgery was to place the implant. The time it will take also depends on how complicated it is. A simple placement can some times be done in 30 minutes. The dentist should be able to give you an idea before it is done.

Yes: Yes it is a surgical procedure. Usually there is very little pain postoperatively, however some soreness is common. Ibuprofen or tylenol (acetaminophen) is usually effective but stronger narcotics are also used if necessary. A molar implant can be placed in 15-30 minutes.

Yes: Implant placement is surgery. The soft tissue and underlying bone are treated during the placement of the titanium implant. Most patients need only ibuprofen, but many are also given a mild narcotic for short term postoperative comfort. Nearly all of my patients use only the ibuprofen. A single molar implant placement is usually completed in 1 hour or less. If you get a temporary placed then 2 hrs.

Pain meds 4 surgery: Yes all dentistry is considered surgical with the exception of Orthodontics. Pain meds are usually low dose. The can be NSAIDS non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs as well as narcotic . Most implant surgery is relatively painless. Some soreness ,some minor bleeding. However any severe pain needs immediate evaluation. Time to do a molar without grafting is 5-6 months depending on bone density.

Implant surgery: Dental Implant surgery causes very little discomfort compared to other oral surgical procedures. Sedation dentistry is used to provide a safe, comfortable relaxing and anxiety-free experience for certain people receiving any dental treatment. Depending on your degree of fear or anxiety, different levels of sedation may be required. Time is 40 minutes. Take care and have a comfortable experience.
