Is traditional psychotherapy helpful for most people?

It depends: The helpfulness of traditional psychotherapy depends on what you're suffering at present, and what you're ready to work on. All of us have issues we're dealing with, but may or may not be ready to fully address them. Sometimes pain is the path that leads us to "doing something about it.".

Traditional Therapy: Traditional can be defined in infinite ways. If by traditional you mean that a therapeutic relationship exists between doctor and patient, and that professional standards and practices are maintained, the answer is still: perhaps! there are too many variables that exist to make claims that it is helpful to most people.

Yes: Thee is extensive research showing that psychotherapy is effective. Some years ago, consumer reports also tackled the question through a survey of subscribers. The overwhelming majority who had had psychotherapy reported that they benefited from it, including the people with the most severe problems.

No such thing: Really there is no such thing as traditional psychotherapy, as put. There are many different types of psychotherapy on the other hand, such as psychoanalytic, psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, and gestalt, just to name a few.
