Surgery for NSCLC: Curative surgery for lung cancer is based on lobectomy, or removing the entire lobe (1/5 of the lung), and rarely pneumonectomy, or removing an entire lung on one side. Lobectomy is traditionally done via a thoracotomy (large cut in the chest). There are minimally invasive approaches such as vats lobectomy. Outcomes are better at high volume centers. http://bit.ly/csjsqa.

Consult your doctor: You should consult the oncologist & cardiothoracic surgeon on this. Some local physicians are participants in clinical trials. They should be able to guide you to the best available treatment. You are entitled to such info and care and should not be shy about it. You can also research clinicaltrials.Gov for additional info on the latest treatments.
