Be calm!: It's always nerve wracking to undergo a procedure and put yourself in someone else's care. The anesthesia you are undergoing is extremely safe and i'm sure your doctors have been thorough in their preparation. Good luck!

MAC anesthesia: Mac refers to "monitored anesthesia care". You will not be going under general anesthesia. The anesthesiologist will monitor your vital signs and give you some IV medications to help you relax while you have your nerve block. You may be so relaxed you will not even remember much of the experience. You will be watched over every moment to ensure your safety. We hope you will feel much better after!

I understand: It is not normal to ask someone to put you to sleep while another works on you. The risks are minimal, in fact i tell my patients that they are more likely to have problems driving to the hospital to have the surgeon. Talk to your anesthesiologist before the operation and they can give you medications to relieve you anxiety.
