A member asked:

I'm scheduled for total hip replacement. i've been readin and it seems most prefer local anesthesia. i'd prefer general as i had an adverse reaction to versed (i could feel the pain but not tell the dr) during a small procedure. your opinion of best?

Discuss with: Anesthesiologists during your Preop visit. Local anesthesia refers to injections of anesthetic in the area to numb the nerves, or a spinal block. Versed would not be considered local. It is a mild form of general anesthetic to calm anxiety but does not treat pain. Deeper anesthesia is necessary for total hip replacement.
