Informed consent: Nothing should be done before explaining pros and cons and obtaining your permission. Propofol is not the only choice, although it is probably best drug for it today. One can undergo colonoscopy without any anesthesia, the experience is likely to be quite unpleasant and stressful and conditions for the doctor performing it suboptimal, so i would invite you to address all your concerns beforehand.

Discuss with Anesthe: It is a standard practice in most institution and has to be given by an anesthetist and adds to the cost of doing colonoscopy.According to journal of american medical associationthis type of anesthesia is adding 1.1 billion to the annual cost of colonoscopy you can opt for a different sadative called conscious sedation which is a combination of drugs to relax you and help the pain and used to be.
