PET scan: Pet scan is a sensitive modality. It is so sensitive that infection or other inflammation process also can give you hypermetabolic pattern ( a.K.A.- can light up on the scan). In general , anything less than suv 3.5 , many times is caused by more benign condition such as infection or inflammation. While on the other hand, when suv is higher than 3.5 -is usually more concerning of malignant process.

No BronchoalveolarCA: Lower suv values can still be associated with cancer, especially the bronchoalveolar type of cancer. The entire image and clinical status, smoking history and other details need to be considered while evaluating the likelihood of malignancy in a radiologic abnormality. There are risk prediction models available to quantify the risk of a particular nodule being malignant.
