PTSD treatment: The most effective treatments for ptsd are 1) cognitive-behavioral therapy that includes gradual exposure to distressing situations, reminders and triggers in imagination and then real life and 2) eye movement desensitization & reprocessing (emdr). Either one should be combined with relaxation training and provided in a safe, supportive environment by an empathic therapist.

Agree w Dr. Stewart.: Regarding the cognitive behavioral therapy which was mentioned- there is a specific form of cbt called cognitive processing therapy which is specific for ptsd. It is highly effective - even for treatment of complex ptsd. Group therapy for people w like trauma. Psychiatric medications, emdr ; exposure tx also help. Take care.
