A member asked:

If i have mild pulmonary hypertension during pregnancy, shortness of breath and a racing heart can labor make this worse?

Yes: Labor can impose substantial and prolonged stress. In some cases a C-section is advisable.

Certainly: Your obstetrician and cardiologist will have to follow you closely during the pregnancy. Labor puts stress on your entire body including your heart, so they may decide that an elective c-section is safest. If you have a trial of labor, an epidural can help control the pain and make the experience less stressful. But it would not decrease the stress on the heart of actually giving birth.
