There are many....: However, in most cases the best initial combination of medications to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus is metformin and Glipizide and the combination is available in a combination pill called metaglip (glipizide and metformin). Another good combination is metformin and Glyburide available in a combination pill called glucovance.

Many options: It all depends on your risk factors, h/o heart trouble, stroke, neuropathy, retinopathy, kidney problems, weight but at the present time, we're very concerned about weight gain so the best combination for me is something that does not induce weight gain or better yet, can induce weight loss. Good combination is thus metformin + either victoza/byetta/bydureon or januvia/tradjenta/onglyza.
