A member asked:

Is it normal for your surgeon to only give you enough pain medication to last 6 days after gallbladder surgery? i'm still in immense pain.

Depends: Did you take the medicine as directed or more than prescribed? Most major pains are gone after about 3 days from laparoscopic surgery. If you are having severe pain, vomiting or fevers, call your surgeon.

Post op pain manage: The amount and duration of post op pain is hard to predict and varies greatly. Most surgeons give a usual amount of narcotic pains tablets, 30 to 40 after surgery. If you run out, still in pain it is okay. Call your surgeon and go in for a visit. If there is another problem brewing, it will likely be found. Additional pain meds will be discussed, and likely prescribed.
