A member asked:

My mother in law has hepatitis c and is retaining a lot of water what does this mean ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Maybe related or not: Fluid retention in the setting of chronic hepatitis c raises concern for "third spacing" of fluid or leakage from blood vessels due to low proteins. Such the case is often seen in patients with very sick livers. However, fluid retention in your mother-in-law's case may have little to do with her liver disease, & may reflect heart/vessel &/or kidney problems. Doctor needs to see her please asap.
