YES: Milk has a natural sugar lactose and it will causes cavities if the teeth are not cleaned. We most commonly see this in infants whose parents put them to bed with a bottle of milk (nursing bottle caries). Milk is great however you still need to brush, floss and please do not put your children to bed with a bottle of milk.

Yes: Milk is a carbohydrate so by definition there are some types of sugars in it. While not as easily metabolized as powder sugar, the bacteria in the mouth can still use it as fuel. Milk without added sugar (like flavored milk) is always preferred, but you should continue to follow excellent home care to help prevent cavities...No matter what.
