Lean protein, etc...: Foods with lean protein (such as chicken breast), healthier types of fats, and complex whole grain carbohydrates would be good choices. Avoid sugars and simple starches. Regarding athletic performance, a person can perform better if he believes he can. That means even if the food is not making a difference, he will do better if be believes the food will give him that personal edge.
