Go back to doctor!: With children, things change over time. Sometimes a problem will look like one thing the first time, so we advise a parent accordingly; then after a couple of days it becomes obvious that it's something else. Sometimes we try the treatment most likely to work, but it doesn't help, so after a few days we need to try another treatment. If it's not getting better or worsening, see your md again.

Give it a few days: This is a common therapy for what you describe. I would give it a few days to look better before asking your doctor to reassess the situation. If you begin to notice a crusty discharge from the eyes or the redness begins to extend beyond its initial area call back earlier.
