Ask Ur Surgeon: We surgeons tend to be very possessive of our patients, especially right after surgery. Not all hernia operations are the same--your surgeon is best-suited to answer this question & i'm certain his/her office will get you a prompt reply. In general, though, it's not how much you lift but how you lift--keep stress off the abdomen for at least 3 weeks. Good luck!

Maybe: It depends on the technique used to repair the hernia. Call your surgeon for postoperative instructions, and to answer your question about activity level.

Short answer, No.: Hernia repairs can carry a significant risk of failure and you should do everything you can to help lower your risk. No vigorous activity and no lifting anything more than 10 pounds for 6 weeks. No bending or stooping until you can do it easily without pain. No driving until you are pain free and not taking any pain medication.
