See below: Best thing is to stop all narcotic pain medication, use a mild laxative if you are constipated, drink plenty of liquids, eat smaller amounts of soft foods. Call your surgeon if you do not improve soon. Larger hernias will take longer to recover.

Call your surgeon : You must stay hydrated. If your abdomen is bloated, and you cannot keep liquids down, and are not passing flatus, you may have some thing known as an ileus, and need to be admitted to the hospital for IV fluids. Call your surgeon to find out. Hope this helps!
