Yes, take it slow: You should be fine, it is recommended that you wait a least 4 weeks before exercising. I think 6 weeks is fantastic. The best way to get back into your normal exercise routine is to start slowly and gradually increase both intensity and duration, remember that it also depends on how you are feeling and that you should go at your own pace but start out slow and steady.

Always check w doc: No one can answer that question except your surgeon. Always check with your doctor before trying anything new that might re-injur area where surgery was performed.

Exercise: You may be able to return but it depends on the extent and location of hernia. Also expect to return in a progressive fashion. Should definitely coordinate this with your surgeon.
