A member asked:

What are the risk and outcomes of low amniotic fluid in the first trimester? (17weeks pregnant)

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Poor lung developmnt: The fluid is what the fetus "breathes" and helps the lungs develop normally. Severely decreased amniotic fluid can prevent the lungs from growing, developing, and being able to support the breathing needs of a newborn. Please visit with your provider to discuss management and options. Best wishes to you.
