Gentle saline irriga: Persistent mucous may be nasal passage that is partially obstructed with hardened mucous, an infection including viral infections and some bacterial infections, whether the infant had previously received nasal CPAP or had a nasogastric tube. Use a sterile nasal saline drops and place one or drops into each nostril and hold infant in sitting position. Use the bulb syringe very gently.

Saline, humidifier : Try otc saline nasal drops/spray to help clear the mucus from the nasal passages. Also, a cool most humidifier can be very helpful; be sure to keep the door closed for it to be most beneficial. If he is having significant difficulty breathing or high fever, you may need to see your doctor.
