Is levaquin (levofloxacin) 750mg a safe antibiotic for infections from wisdom teeth extractions?

Well....: Levaquin (levofloxacin) is not something i commonly prescribe for a dental infection. It tends to be very expensive and has some difficult side effects. Unless your dentist/oral surgeon/doctor specifically told you to take this (in which case i'm sure they have a good reason), i would see your dentist/oral surgeon and get a prescription from them. I have used Levaquin (levofloxacin) before, but in unique circumstances.

Not the best option: Levooquin and other antibiotics in this class aren't the first choice for potential infection from wisdom tooth removal. Subperiosteal infections are more common than osteomyelitis.Penicillin or a first generation cephalosporin such as Keflex are better choices. Many times patients try to save a little money by using medication lying around. This isn't a good habit. Just follow the doc's direction.
