"Hard" to say?: You may want to get another opinion. Your doctor may be perfectly right. Another opinion may not be a bad idea. An aggressive course of antibiotics, steroids nasally and or orally, other medications and treatments may be therapeutic and of use. Sometimes surgery is the most expedient and proper treatment right out of the gate.

Bad sinuses: Try to determine what the cause of the sinus trouble is. If for example it is allergy then antihistamines and nasal washes with a neti pot may givfe you great relief. Talk to your doctors about tracking down the cause before you consider surgery.

Take antibiotics: "true sinus infections". , not a viral cold, are caused by bacterial infection of the air containing sinuses around the nose and benefit from antibiotics. If it is a viral infection it is usually self limiting in 5-7 days, and does not require antibiotics.

Sinus Infections: You can try drinking lots of fluids, steam, salt water nasal sprays, various herbs and neti pots. The success of these treatments is quite variable and dependent on how severe the infection is, how long you have had it, the severity of your allergies, septal deviations, nasal polyps, etc. Etc. See your ENT doc if the sinus issues persist... They can become serious or chronic if you delay too long.

Not necessarily : It depends on the health of your grandmother and the type of fracture that she sustained. Some can be repaired simply and others require a more invasive procedure. If the risk is great because she has poor health they may hold on surgery. If she is a healthy 87 yo then they would operate. My 105 yo grandmother had hers repaired at age 85. She was active till 105. Hope she is ok.
