A member asked:

Why are plastic surgeons recommended for removing moles?

Better scar: Any physician can remove a mole ("nevus") typically with local anesthesia either by shaving just below the skin surface or formal excision with suture repair. Plastic surgeons are experts at wound healing and suture repair of wounds therefore dermatologists often defer to plastic surgeons for treatment of moles either before or after a biopsy.

More surgical skill: Plastic surgeons have extra surgical training and are experts in tissue manipulation, precise techniques, fine suture utilization, and wound/healing optimization that other non-surgical specialists simply don't have. We're not perfect, but we are generally the best there is for these kinds of things. Many can cut, but few can do it properly and reconstruct it the best way possible!

Cosmetic: To make the scar less visible. If you don't care how they look after removal, see a dermatologist or family doctor as they will probably be covered by your insurance. :).
