Disagree: You have the option of minimally invasive hysterectomy. Even very large uterine fibroids may be managed this way. The college of ob/gyn has even made the statement that your doctor should refer you to a dr who does minimally invasive hysterectomy. Robotic surgery would be preferable in your case due to the enhanced visability and dexterity of the instruments. Check out davincisurgery.Com.

Yes: You probably dont need hysterectomy at all! get a third opinion from an interventional radiologist who is skilled in uterine fibroid embolization (ufe). It is performed as an outpatient. It is safer than surgery, less invasive, and has much shorter recovery but most importantly you get to keep your uterus ! even if you're not interested in childbearing your uterus is important to you.
