Auditory system: The abr stands for auditory brainstem response. This test is also known as brainstem auditory evoked response (or baer). The test is designed to assess the function of the hearing pathway from the ear to the brainstem. This test can be done without sedation, but in children usually is done with because it requires that the patient lie completely still with their eyes closed.
