Usually work: Usually Cipro (ciprofloxacin) works better but with any uti, i send it to the lab to see what bacteria is causing it and which antibiotic it is sensitive to.

Effective antibiotic: It depends on what organism is causing your urinary tract infection (uti). The best way to find out what antibiotic is effective is to go to your physician and have a culture and sensitivity (c&s) ordered on your urine. Once the c&s is returned, you can tell if you're on the proper antibiotic, or need another one to successfully treat it.
