Yes but very rare: A board certified fellowship trained orthopaedic spine surgeon or neurosurgeon is what you are looking for. The risk of paralysis post op is extremely rare. Discuss this with your surgeon to put yourself at ease. Ask how many he or she does and their results.

Neck Surgery: Neck surgery is done with utmost care and monitoring of the spinal cord and nerves during surgery. The chance to have paralysis is very remote. You should discuss this further with your spine surgeon to alleviate your fears.
