PID is complex.: Pelvic inflammatory disease is a disorder in which the entire vaginal wall, tubes, and/ or ovaries, cervix are inflammed usually from from chronic, recurrent infections, usually from sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, trichamonas. This must be treated by a gynecologist.

Depends: Depends on what the anticipated cause of the pid is and on how sick you are. Pid by definition is infection of the upper genital tract structions in women (uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes and may involve neighboring pelvic organs). See dr. Christiaan maurer's response for the specific antibiotic recommendations.

Antibiotics: The choice of antibiotics is based on the the common bacteria which causes pid;. Gonorrhea and chlamydia. If treated as an outpatient, a gram of Azithromycin by mouth and an intramuscular injection of 250 mg of Rocephin (ceftriaxone) are usually used. There are other options of antibiotics in case of having allergies to above mentioned drugs.
