What happens to the packing a surgeon inserts after rectal polyps are removed? should i the patient remove it a day or two after surgery

Ask your surgeon: I assume you had drainage of an abscess with packing. This shouldn't stay in more than a day or two as it interferes with drainage. Some surgeons pack to stop bleeding and this should only be needed overnight. Some surgeons don't pack at all and just put a dressing over the surface (this is less painful). Again, ask your surgeon as he/she knows why it was placed.

Mostly Yes: I usually have the patient or family member remove the packing 1-2 days after surgery for rectal abscess. You should check with your surgeon however just to be sure.
