A member asked:

The recommendation by gastro. md to remove a terminal ileum polyp is surgery by a general or oncology surgeon. i may decline the offer for a blood transfusion and other blood products at that time. what could go wrong in the situation?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

For individuals who have religious restriction against blood transfusion, surgery can still be done by using blood substitutes. You should discuss this issue with the surgeon and ask for the risks involved. I think there is but small risk to life in case of excessive bleeding which can occur on rare occasions. But an experienced surgeon will be able to carry out the surgery to remove your polyp.
