Depends: 'intestinal metaplasia' depends where the biopsy was taken from, it simply means the cells are not normal looking, not cancer cells either. Metaplasia can occur not in cancer alone with variety of causes like , irritation infection etc , simply means need observation.

No: Assuming this is in your esophagus from reflux, metaplasia means you have chronic injury to the esophagus from reflux of acidic fluid from the stomach into the esophagus. Stopping the reflux, and decreasing the acid (acid blocker medications) decreases the risk of metaplasia progression. You definitely need to be sure to treat the reflux.
