A member asked:

Can stomach metaplasia cause a reduction of gastritis symptoms? if so, the patient feels better about health, when cancer risk actually *increased*...

No: Metaplasia of the mucolsal cells of the stomach represents a prevancerous state leading to a malignant ulcer or diffuse areas of carcinoma. Gastritis sympotoms have to do with acid production with benign ulceration and inflammation unrelated to precancer. By having metaplastic cells, these should be carefully examined prior to coversion to cancer which can then invade and spread.

No: Metaplasia is a form of inadequate tissue repair; it does not mean reduction in symptoms; rather it is a new complication
