See below.: Many ovarian cysts resolve on their own. Your doctor may consider watchful waiting to see if this would happen. Some cyst such as dermoid cyst, cystadenoma or endometriom don't go away on their own but these are rare compared to the typically follicular cysts.

When removed: If ovarian cyst is causing bloating as a symptom. Only way the bloating will go away is if the cyst is removed. Bloating with ovarian cyst happens if the cyst is rather large in size and there may be other symptoms like pelvic pain, pain during bowel movements, pain during sexual intercourse and before/after periods.

A 33-year-old female asked:

Can a small dermoid ovarian cyst go away on its own?

1 doctor answer2 doctors weighed in
Dr. Gerard Honore
Fertility Medicine 29 years experience
No: Functional cysts such as follicles are intended to rupture (that's ovulation, ) many abnormal cysts (endometriomas, benign tumors, dermoid cysts) will not go away unless removed. SO if it's a dermoid it will stay and keep growing; conversely if it DOES go away on its own it wasn't dermoid. Good wishes.
