Maybe not: Ringing in the ear is known as tinnitus. It is most often associated with hearing loss. You should be evaluated with an audiogram and ENT examination. Tinnitus can be eliminated if it caused by a medication or a treatable problem of the middle ear or temporomandibular joint. If hearing loss is confirmed, then masking techniques are most effective at "hiding" the tinnitus so it is not intrusive.
