You don't: I fear that showering is the least of your issues. I get the impression that your son doesn't respect the authority of his parents. This can happen for many reasons. If the situation is so severe that you are asking for help on this forum, then it may be worth seeing a counselor for you and your son.

Barter: This may be simple or not. Realize you often provide things for the 12 yo that are optional but he considers his birthright. You don't need to take him places, he can walk or not go. Allowance is always optional and may be considered payment for doing what you ask ,including showering.You don't need to sign for him to attend field trips,etc.If this doesn't help, seek counseling.
