What could cause a weird shocking pain in my back?

Nerve impingement?: Sounds as if you have some kind of nerve impingement - but you need to find out what is causing that. Could be anything from bulging disks to degeneration in spine (happens to us all). Check with your pcp to get xray or mri. Possibly an oral steroid to see if that helps. If not then a referral to a reputable pain management specialist who can diagnose and suggest minimally invasive treatments.
