What can cause a sudden sharp poking/shocking sensation in my back while sleeping?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Back pain: Sharp pains in the back while sleeping can come from a partners toenails, insects, or debris in the bed. Also, muscle spasm, facet disease, or strain from a poorly supportive mattress. Some skin infections or diseases may do this, as well . Check out what you can externally, then see a pain doc, PMR, ortho doc to get evaluated for anything from the body that can be causing discomfort.
