How can pain of tmj be relieved?

NSAID: You can take nsaid.(advil/tylenol/aleve). Also warm compresses to the side of the jaw. It is best to be diagnosed as to the cause of your symptoms. Majority of people have stress related symptoms leading to grinding or clenching when they are sleeping. An occlussal guard mouthpiece can be made by a dentist to help alleviate symptoms as well.

Several ways: See your dentist to discuss splint therapy, physical therapy, biofeedback, orthodontics, neuromuscular treatment, imaging of the joint, and some simple palliative measures as well.

Temp vrs perm: For temporary relief advil?Motrin/ibuprofen, warm compresses, relaxation exercises. Occlusal orthotic, soft diet, bio-feedback. For permanent relief must find cause of problem and treat cause. Almost invariably malocclusion is involved, and joint symptoms diminish when malocclusion corrected. See an orthodontist.

A few things: Depends on symptoms, and cause of symptoms. 3 signs of TMJ dysfunction: joint noises, joint pain & limited oral opening. Self treat with soft diet, jaw exercises, massage, heat/cold, OTC pain meds. A splint or physical therapy would be next. Occasionally muscle relaxants, biofeedback. Xrays are done for diagnosis. Surgery usually reserved for serious symptoms not responsive to other treatments.

Depends on Symptoms: "TMJ" pain is something a lot of patients may complain of that may be caused by a number of different factors. A thorough history, clinical examination with the appropriate supporting tests (x-rays, etc.) will help determine the cause and recommended treatment regimen.
