Days to weeks: The recovery time varies with the size and location of the hernia and the method of repair. The most common hernia operation i perform is via the laparoscopic approach. I encourage my patients to return to their baseline aerobic activities as soon as possible, typically within 7-10 days. In general, i advise against heavy lifting for 3 weeks.

About a month : I generally have my patients resume light activity in about a week. But they are to avoid heavy lifting or strenuous activity for at least a month. But every surgery is different.
